Dubai Railbus Testing to Be Completed in Two Years as Part of Green Transport Development
Technical studies for the Dubai Railbus project will be completed within two years, after which the new transport system will complement the existing infrastructure, including the Dubai Metro and tram lines, according to The National. The National. According to Abdul Mohsen Ibrahim Kalbat, head of Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the construction of the Railbus will be significantly cheaper than building a metro system, with costs estimated to be 20–30% lower than similar projects worldwide. "The development of sustainable transport is part of the national strategy to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050," Kalbat stated. "This system will be integrated with the existing public transport network, providing convenient travel for passengers from areas adjacent to metro stations."
The Railbus system will use a zonal fare structure, making trips more cost-effective for passengers. Upon completion of the current studies, authorities, in collaboration with the RTA, will conduct further analysis to determine the most promising routes for the first phase of implementation.
While the exact launch date of the project has not yet been announced, RTA Director-General Mattar Al Tayer stated that after the research phase, optimal locations for pilot testing and integration into Dubai’s transport network will be identified.
