Dubai Updates Salik Rules: New Tariffs and Fines Introduced

Dubai Updates Salik Rules: New Toll Rates and Fines 2025

Salik System in Dubai: New Tariffs and Penalties Announced

Starting from late January 2025, Dubai implemented an updated Salik toll system that now adjusts toll charges based on the time of day. During peak hours — Monday to Saturday from 6:00 to 10:00 AM and from 4:00 to 8:00 PM — the toll is 6 AED. At other times of the day, the fee is 4 AED, while from 1:00 to 6:00 AM, toll roads are free. On Sundays, a flat rate of 4 AED applies throughout the day.

Currently, Dubai has 10 Salik toll gates located on major highways, including Sheikh Zayed Road and the bridges over Dubai Creek. To use the system, drivers must purchase an RFID sticker (Salik tag) for 100 AED, with 50 AED credited to the user’s account. The sticker should be placed on the windshield beneath the rear-view mirror.

Salik accounts can be topped up through the official Salik website, the Smart Salik mobile app, ATMs, kiosks, or banks. Automatic top-ups can also be set when the balance drops below a certain threshold. Failure to have a valid tag or sufficient balance results in fines: 100 AED for the first offense, 200 AED for the second, and 400 AED for each subsequent violation. Passing through the Al Mamzar North/South or Al Safa North/South gates in the same direction within one hour is charged only once.

To reduce toll expenses, drivers are advised to use free alternative routes, such as Al Khail Road, Emirates Road, and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, or plan trips outside peak hours. Public transportation, such as the metro and buses, is also a cost-effective alternative to driving.
