The driver has to pay over 51 thousand AED
The Abu Dhabi court has ordered a former taxi driver to pay AED 51,450 to his previous employer. The ruling stems from a traffic violation in which the driver ran a red light, resulting in expenses that the company was forced to cover.
According to court documents, the driver, who was employed under a fixed-term contract, committed a traffic offense that initially incurred a fine of AED 3,000. However, the total amount paid by the company—including additional penalties and related fees—amounted to AED 50,000. An additional AED 1,450 was spent on associated expenses.
Despite multiple attempts by the employer to recover the losses, the driver failed to reimburse the company, prompting the employer to file a lawsuit. The claim also included a request for 5% late payment interest and compensation for legal fees and court costs.
The court reviewed the company’s submitted documents, including the employment contract, payment receipts, and the driver's salary certificate, and found the claims to be valid. Citing the provisions of the law on evidence—which requires the plaintiff to prove their claim and the defendant to refute it—the court ruled in favor of the employer.
As a result, the driver has been ordered to repay the full compensation amount of AED 51,450.
