Abu Dhabi introduces new restrictions on trucks during peak hours starting January 27
Starting Monday, January 27, new restrictions on the movement of heavy vehicles will come into effect on Abu Dhabi's roads, the Abu Dhabi Mobility Authority announced. The initiative aims to improve traffic flow and safety while reducing the strain on infrastructure caused by the growing number of vehicles.
According to the new rules, heavy vehicles, including freight trucks, tankers, and construction equipment, will be banned from the city’s roads during peak traffic hours. The restrictions will apply from Monday to Thursday between 6:30 AM and 9:00 AM, and again from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. On Fridays, the ban will also cover the morning hours (6:30 AM to 9:00 AM) with an additional restriction from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
This initiative is designed to reduce traffic congestion caused by the slower movement of heavy vehicles alongside lighter ones. It will also help protect roads and bridges from premature wear and tear caused by the weight of heavy vehicles.
The Abu Dhabi Mobility Authority stated that it is working closely with the police to ensure that heavy vehicle owners comply with the new regulations.
Restrictions in Dubai and Sharjah
Similar measures are already in effect in Dubai and Sharjah. As of January 1, Dubai has banned trucks from using Emirates Road during evening rush hours, from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM. This restriction applies specifically to the stretch between Al Awir Street and Sharjah.
Sharjah has also introduced similar restrictions on Emirates Transit Road starting January 1. Truck movement is prohibited between 5:30 PM and 8:00 PM on the section from the Sharjah entrance to Intersection No. 7.
These measures aim to alleviate traffic congestion and provide a smoother driving experience for passenger vehicles across the region.
