Dubai has launched smart cameras that automatically issue fines for 17 types of violations
Dubai has launched a new AI-powered camera system that automatically detects traffic violations. The cameras capture images and record short videos, after which the system independently issues fines. Previously, the devices operated in test mode, but they are now fully functional.
The cameras detect a total of 17 types of violations, including those that were previously enforced only by police officers. These include failure to maintain a safe distance (fine of 400 AED and 4 penalty points), not wearing a seatbelt (fine of 400 AED and 4 penalty points, with cameras detecting violations even through tinted windows), using a mobile phone while driving (fine of 800 AED and 4 penalty points, with the system analyzing hand movements), and exceeding the permissible noise level (fine of 2000 AED and 12 penalty points).
In addition, the cameras detect other violations, such as speeding and running a red light.
