Smart Technologies on Dubai’s Roads: How AI Is Transforming the Transport System

Dubai hosted a week-long exhibition organized by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), where key developments in artificial intelligence were presented. The event was part of the implementation of the Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2030 and demonstrated how AI is being used to improve urban transport, reduce wait times, increase infrastructure sustainability, and enhance passenger comfort.

Among the featured solutions were a bus driver support system, a metro energy consumption forecast dashboard, a cycling infrastructure assessment tool, and a road asset monitoring system using LiDAR. Also showcased were an intelligent bus network management tool, in-vehicle cameras for evaluating driving instructors, and the Madinati WhatsApp service for reporting public transport damage.

As part of the event, an AI hackathon was held, during which RTA employees presented innovative AI-based solutions. The best ideas were awarded. According to Mohammed Al Mudharreb, Deputy Head of the AI team, such initiatives strengthen Dubai’s leadership in smart mobility and engage employees and partners in the practical application of AI.
