Dubai Accelerates Transport Modernization: Travel Time Reduced by 60%

In 2024, Dubai undertook a large-scale modernization of its road network, implementing improvements in 50 key locations across the city. As a result, travel times in certain areas have been reduced from 10 minutes to just 4 minutes, marking a 60% decrease.

Traffic Optimization and Reduced Congestion

According to research, in 2023, Dubai motorists lost up to 35 hours in traffic congestion. The newly implemented transport solutions have significantly improved the situation by increasing road capacity and enhancing traffic flow efficiency.

Key Transport Projects of 2024

The focus of these improvements has been on road expansions, intersection upgrades, and enhanced accessibility to school zones.

• Expansion of Exit 55 to Al Rebat Street – the number of lanes was increased from two to three, allowing a capacity of 4,500 vehicles per hour and reducing travel time from 10 to 4 minutes.

Upgrading Transport Infrastructure in School Zones

One of RTA’s top priorities in 2024 was improving traffic conditions around schools. Eight major projects were implemented, covering 37 schools across Dubai.

Key improvements include:

• Widening roads near schools
• Increasing the number of parking spaces
• Enhancing entry and exit points

RTA will continue modernizing Dubai’s transport infrastructure in 2025, with 75 new projects planned, including:

• Expansion and upgrading of major intersections
• New entry and exit points in residential and commercial areas
