Dubai International Airport is implementing cutting-edge security technologies designed to significantly reduce screening time and eliminate the need for passengers to remove laptops, tablets, and liquids from their carry-on luggage.
Terminals 1, 2, and 3 are being equipped with advanced 3D scanners — HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX — developed in collaboration with Smiths Detection. These scanners provide security personnel with clear, detailed images of bag contents without the need to unpack them.
Additionally, the airport is introducing automated conveyor belts with tray return systems, making the screening process faster and more convenient. Passengers will have more time to relax or shop in the duty-free area before their flight.
Meanwhile, Emirates has achieved impressive results in baggage handling: from April 2024 to March 2025, the airline successfully delivered 99.9% of all checked baggage. Around 100,000 pieces of luggage pass through the Dubai hub daily — over 2.8 million bags per month — marking a record for the airline.
Despite the large scale and complexity of operations, Emirates maintains one of the best accuracy rates in the industry, with only 1.4 mishandled bags per 1,000 — nearly 30 times lower than some other carriers. In case of delays, 91% of bags are returned to their owners within 72 hours.
The airport’s Lost and Found department also operates with high efficiency: 94% of valuable items such as passports, phones, and wallets are returned to passengers within 60 minutes.
Each month, around 2,300 untagged bags enter the system. Thanks to the coordinated efforts of Emirates and dnata teams, approximately 80% of them are quickly identified and loaded onto their flights without causing inconvenience to travelers.
