Dubai Police Save Driver After Cruise Control Failure on E311 Highway
Dubai police officers averted a potential accident by rescuing a driver whose car lost control due to a cruise control malfunction on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road (E311). The incident occurred while the vehicle was heading toward Abu Dhabi. According to the driver, he was unable to slow down or brake.
Acting Director of the Dubai Police General Traffic Department, Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, reported that the operations center received information about the technical failure, which caused the cruise control system to stop responding to commands. Patrol units were immediately dispatched to the scene, establishing contact with the driver and guiding his actions until the car came to a full stop.
Police officers cleared the road ahead and behind the vehicle, creating a safe corridor that allowed the driver to stop without incident. Bin Suwaidan noted that the successful outcome was due to the coordinated efforts of the dispatch center and on-site officers.
Dubai Police also reminded drivers how to act in similar situations: stay calm, fasten seat belts, turn on hazard lights, and call 999. It is recommended to shift the gear to neutral and try turning off the engine. If that doesn’t work, press the brake gently or slowly apply the handbrake while keeping control of the steering wheel. As a last resort, switch between neutral and drive (D) to regain control.
Officials stressed that regular vehicle maintenance, particularly of the braking system and cruise control, is essential to avoid such dangerous incidents and ensure road safety.
