Historic Porsche 910 Prototype Hits the Auction Block
A rare and historically significant Porsche 910, bearing chassis number "910001," is now up for auction on Bring a Trailer. As the very first model of its kind ever produced, this prototype played a critical role in Porsche’s motorsport evolution, bridging the gap between its early race cars and future icons like the Porsche 917.
The car enjoyed an impressive racing career, including a fourth-place overall finish at the famed 1000 km of Monza in 1968. Following its time on the track, the vehicle was converted for road use and passed through the hands of several private collectors. After a recent full restoration, it’s once again ready for competitive action in FIA historic racing events.
Originally equipped with a 2.0-liter flat-six engine similar to those found in racing-spec 911s, later versions of the 910 were fitted with more powerful eight-cylinder units better suited for endurance racing. Despite these upgrades, early models with lightweight magnesium engine casings remain renowned for their distinctive sound and unmatched performance.
