New ferry terminal in Abu Dhabi: improving transportation connectivity and developing maritime infrastructure
A new ferry terminal has opened on Al Aliah Island in Abu Dhabi, significantly improving transportation connectivity for both local residents and visitors to the emirate. The new facility covers an area of 3,900 square meters and includes a terminal with a waiting area for 60 passengers, 15-meter and 12.5-meter berths for loading and unloading ro-ro vessels, an 80-square-meter administrative building, seven car parking spaces, six truck parking spots, and crew accommodations.
The terminal was inaugurated by the Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility) under the Department of Municipalities and Transport in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Maritime, a part of AD Ports Group. According to Dr. Abdulla Hamad AlGhfeli, Acting Director-General of the Integrated Transport Centre, this project reflects Abu Dhabi Mobility’s commitment to developing the emirate’s maritime sector in line with global trends in digitalization and sustainable development.
Captain Saif Al Mheiri, CEO of Abu Dhabi Maritime and Chief Sustainability Officer at AD Ports Group, described the terminal’s opening as another milestone in the development of maritime infrastructure, highlighting that the Saadiyat Ferry Terminal was launched just a year ago. As part of its strategy to create a cutting-edge and sustainable transportation network for Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi Maritime has also introduced modern ferries, specifically designed to meet local conditions and passenger needs.
