McLaren Sets Sights on Le Mans and FIA WEC 2027 Return
McLaren Racing has officially announced its return to the top tier of endurance racing, with ambitions to compete for the FIA World Endurance Championship title in 2027 and claim victory at the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans, Tengri Auto reports.
The British marque is expected to enter the competition with a brand-new hypercar built to LMDh regulations. According to unconfirmed reports, the car will feature a twin-turbo V6 engine derived from the McLaren Artura, paired with a hybrid powertrain. However, official technical details have yet to be disclosed.
McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown made a brief and confident statement: "We're back."
It’s a nostalgic moment for the brand, which famously won Le Mans back in 1995 with the F1 GTR run by Kokusai Kaihatsu Racing. Now, McLaren is aiming to replicate that historic success in the modern era of endurance racing.
By the way: One of the youngest Formula 1 drivers — 18-year-old Kimi Antonelli — received a Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S supercar as a gift. However, despite the prestigious present, the racer is not yet legally allowed to drive the car on public roads. This was reported by Formula 1 on its official account on social media platform X.
