The Midnight flying taxi will begin test flights in Abu Dhabi
In the coming months, test flights of the Midnight flying taxi, developed by the American company Archer Aviation, will begin in Abu Dhabi. This electric air taxi is designed for short urban flights and can carry up to four passengers over a distance of up to 160 km at a speed of approximately 240 km/h. The key feature of Midnight is its vertical takeoff and landing capability, allowing it to operate in densely populated urban areas and use vertiports instead of traditional airports.
The UAE government actively supports the implementation of innovative transport solutions, and Abu Dhabi will be one of the first capitals to conduct trials of this type of transport. The project is being carried out in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO) and is part of a broader strategy to develop smart mobility in the region. During the tests, authorities will assess the reliability, safety, and integration of the flying taxi into the urban transport system, as well as evaluate passenger convenience.
Midnight operates on electric power and produces significantly lower noise levels compared to traditional helicopters. The battery charging process takes only 10–15 minutes between flights, enabling frequent short-distance trips. Initially, the air taxi will conduct test flights without passengers, but by 2026, commercial operations are expected to launch, significantly reducing travel time between different districts of Abu Dhabi and even providing a connection to Dubai.
Archer Aviation has already signed agreements with local authorities and investors and is negotiating with potential service operators. In the future, these flying taxis are expected to become an essential part of urban mobility in the UAE, offering fast, eco-friendly, and comfortable transportation for residents and tourists alike.
