How will traffic be improved around schools in Dubai?
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced a large-scale road improvement project targeting nine school zones across the city. The initiative aims to enhance traffic efficiency and safety around educational institutions. To minimize disruptions to daily traffic flow, the works are scheduled to take place during the summer break.
As part of the plan, road infrastructure will be upgraded near the school complex in Al Warqa 1. An additional entry point will be built for school buses at GEMS in Al Warqa 3, while new access and exit points will be created around The English College in Al Safa 1, located along Sheikh Zayed Road. A signal-controlled pedestrian crossing will also be installed on Al Seedaf Street in Al Barsha 1.
Nad Al Sheba.
These efforts are part of a broader improvement program covering a total of 40 locations across Dubai. Between June and September, road crews will carry out works on 22 major roads, 9 school areas, 5 development zones, and several internal streets in districts such as Tolerance District, Al Khawaneej 2, and Nad Al Sheba.
Planned upgrades also include constructing a new access road to labor camps in Al Muhaisnah from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, and improving Al Mustaqbal Street to ensure smoother access to newly developed residential areas. Traffic flow will also be streamlined between Al Khail Road and Al Asayel Street via Al Marabea’ Street.
Additionally, new parking facilities will be built in Oud Al Muteena 1 to serve the Zayed Educational Complex, while internal road enhancements will continue in areas like Jebel Ali Industrial 1, Nad Al Sheba, and Al Warqa. Pedestrian walkways will also be introduced in the Al Quoz Creative Zone to improve pedestrian safety.
The next phase of the RTA project will focus on easing traffic congestion in key locations such as Jumeirah Village Circle (towards Hessa Street), Ras Al Khor Road, Al Thanya Street, and King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street. Further improvements will be made on Al Meydan Street, Al Sa’ada Street, Al Asayel Street, and at the intersection of Al Wasl Street with Al Manara Street.
