Xiaomi has unveiled the YU7, an electric crossover with premium features and a price tag lower than the Tesla Model Y, which has already become a hit in the Chinese market.
Electric car from Xiaomi
Xiaomi has unveiled its first electric SUV, the YU7, built on its own modular Modena platform. The car is available in three versions — Standard, Pro, and Max, with power outputs ranging from 235 to 508 kW. Depending on the configuration, acceleration to 100 km/h takes from 5.9 to just 3.2 seconds, and the top speed reaches 253 km/h. The use of 800-volt architecture and batteries with a capacity of up to 102 kW h allows for a range of up to 835 km according to the Chinese CLTC cycle, while fast charging from 10 to 80% takes from 12 to 21 minutes.
The base price in China starts at 253,000 yuan (~$35,000), and the flagship Max version costs about 330,000 yuan. This makes the YU7 noticeably cheaper than the Tesla Model Y, while it offers a more powerful configuration and premium equipment. The interior is equipped with a panoramic HyperVision display, seats with a massage function, an air conditioning system with air ionization, and a multimedia system based on Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The level of noise insulation and quality of finishing bring the model closer to the premium class.
An important feature of the YU7 is the new generation Xiaomi HAD autopilot, which uses lidar, radar, 11 cameras and the NVIDIA Thor chip to implement advanced autonomy. Immediately after the start of sales, the car collected hundreds of thousands of pre-orders, and the demand was so high that delivery times stretched out for months. This is already creating real competition for Tesla, especially in the Chinese market, where Model Y sales have begun to decline.
The YU7 is larger than the Model Y, measuring almost 5 meters in length and with a 3-meter wheelbase. Visually, the model has been compared to the Ferrari Purosangue and Aston Martin DBX, and in terms of consumer interest, it has become a real viral hit. Integration with the Xiaomi ecosystem, including smartphone control, voice assistants, and smart home support, enhances the car's appeal to tech-savvy buyers.
All of this makes the Xiaomi YU7 a serious contender for the top spot in the mid-range EV segment, with a focus on performance, price, and digital integration. It’s not just a car, but part of Xiaomi’s larger strategy to move beyond smartphones and create a complete tech ecosystem.
