Dubai Speeds Up Road Construction: 57 Projects by 2027
Dubai is actively implementing a large-scale road infrastructure modernization program, with 57 projects scheduled for completion by 2027. These efforts aim to ease traffic congestion and prepare the city for a population expected to reach 8 million by 2040. Under the leadership of Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is constructing 226 kilometers of new roads and building 115 bridges and tunnels, focusing on the city's busiest routes.
Among the key projects is the reconstruction of the Umm Suqeim–Al Qudra Corridor, which will cut travel time from 46 to 11 minutes. Hessa Street is also being expanded to double its capacity, with 13.5 kilometers of cycling and e-scooter tracks being added. Major upgrades are underway on Al Fay Road, increasing its traffic capacity by 64,400 vehicles per hour. Meanwhile, Sheikh Zayed Road has already seen the implementation of quick solutions, including dynamic tolling and parking reforms, leading to reduced congestion and increased public transport use.
The city is also expanding its cycling infrastructure, with 557 kilometers of tracks already completed and another 285 kilometers in progress. AI technology and drones are being utilized to accelerate construction and minimize delays. All these initiatives are part of the comprehensive “Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan,” which focuses on building a sustainable, efficient, and future-ready transportation system.
