Dubai becomes a road safety model: 90% drop in accidents over 17 years
Dubai has recorded a 90% reduction in road fatalities and traffic accidents from 2007 to 2024. This was announced during a coordination meeting between the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Police, where the implementation of the 2022–2026 Traffic Safety Strategy was discussed. Key topics included the 2024 performance indicators, strengthened enforcement efforts, infrastructure improvements, and the implementation of 53 joint programs. One of the major achievements is the decrease in road fatalities from 21.7 to 1.8 cases per 100,000 people.
RTA Director-General Mattar Al Tayer emphasized that the goal of "Zero Fatalities" remains a top priority, and the results were made possible through close collaboration with the police. Dubai Police Commander-in-Chief, Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, highlighted the importance of awareness campaigns that have reached all segments of society. The joint efforts of law enforcement and the transport authority continue to position Dubai as a global model for road safety.
