Drivers in the UAE can appeal fines through apps, the prosecutor's office or the court if they have evidence and the filing deadline is met.

Appeal while driving

It is possible to challenge a traffic fine in the UAE in all emirates if the driver considers it to be erroneous or unfair. The period for filing a complaint is from 7 to 60 days, depending on the region. In Dubai, a complaint can be filed in person at the General Directorate of Traffic Police in Al Barsha, through the Dubai Police mobile app or website, or through the Public Prosecutor's Office. In Abu Dhabi, the TAMM portal is used, in Sharjah - WhatsApp and the MOI UAE app, in Ajman - Ajman Police App, and in other emirates - the MOI mobile app.

To file, you must provide evidence of your case: photographs, video recordings from recorders, navigation data, and witness statements. In Dubai, the explanation must be written in Arabic; applications in English are not accepted. After filing, the prosecutor's office considers the application within approximately ten working days. If the complaint is found to be justified, the case is transferred to court, where a full or partial removal of the fine is possible.

In other emirates, the timeframes may differ: in Sharjah and Ajman, feedback usually comes within a few days, in Abu Dhabi - up to two months. If the complaint is rejected, the driver still has the opportunity to appeal to the traffic prosecutor's office or the court. In these cases, the help of a lawyer can significantly increase the chances of success, especially when preparing petitions and representing interests in court.

You can also check for fines and file a complaint through the official mobile applications: Dubai Police App, MOI App, TAMM, Ajman Police App, as well as at 24-hour smart police stations available in Dubai.

In some cases, for serious violations, the fine can be up to 3,000 dirhams, the vehicle may be confiscated and up to 23 "black" points may be added. However, Dubai has a system of discounts of up to 100% for timely payment and no new violations. If the fine has already been paid, it is usually impossible to challenge it. If there are valid reasons, such as illness or a technical error, you can also apply for a mitigation of the punishment through the prosecutor's office or a lawyer.

Thus, the procedure for appealing a fine in the UAE is real and quite feasible if there is evidence, deadlines are met and the correct channel for filing the appeal is chosen.
