Dubai has introduced new AI cameras that record violations including speeding, not keeping a safe distance and not wearing a seat belt, ensuring strict control over road safety.
AI cameras against violators
Dubai has implemented advanced AI-powered traffic cameras to enhance road safety by detecting a wide range of traffic violations. These sophisticated systems are capable of identifying offenses such as speeding, tailgating, running red lights, improper lane changes, and failure to wear seat belts—even through tinted windows.
The AI-driven cameras utilize artificial intelligence to analyze real-time footage, ensuring accurate detection and documentation of violations. For instance, they can differentiate between clothing and a seat belt, even in low-light conditions, ensuring precise enforcement of this life-saving regulation.
Penalties for detected violations are stringent. Exceeding the speed limit by more than 80 km/h results in a fine of AED 3,000, a 60-day vehicle impoundment, and 23 black points on the driver's license. Running a red light incurs a fine of AED 1,000, a 30-day vehicle impoundment, and 12 black points. Tailgating offenses carry a fine of AED 400 and four black points.
These measures reflect Dubai's commitment to leveraging technology for public safety. By deploying AI-powered traffic cameras, the city aims to deter reckless driving behaviors and promote adherence to traffic regulations, contributing to a safer environment for all road users.
