Abu Dhabi has been included in the updated list of cities with the most vibrant cultural life, according to the international publication Time Out. The ranking was based on feedback from over 18,500 residents around the world, who evaluated the cultural infrastructure of their cities—from accessibility to the quality of events.
Abu Dhabi ranked 20th on the list, trailing behind cities such as Paris, Florence, Edinburgh, Mexico City, and Sydney. Nonetheless, the cultural landscape of the UAE capital is rapidly evolving and reaching new heights.

On Saadiyat Island, the newly opened teamLab Phenomena—a large-scale project by the renowned Japanese digital art collective—has already made a significant impression. The Louvre Abu Dhabi continues to attract global attention with major exhibitions. Currently, it is hosting “Kings and Queens of Africa: Forms and Imagery of Power,” organized in partnership with the Quai Branly – Jacques Chirac museum in Paris.
In the near future, Saadiyat's cultural district is expected to expand even further, with the planned openings of the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, the Sheikh Zayed National Museum, and the Natural History Museum—solidifying the city’s position on the global cultural stage.
In the MiZa district, a creative hub for young artists and innovators is thriving. The 421 Arts Campus offers exhibitions, performances, and workshops, while The Alley is known for its themed parties and gastronomic events.
One of the most anticipated cultural highlights remains the Sheikh Zayed Festival—a large-scale celebration featuring popular Arab singers, folklore performances, fireworks, sporting competitions, and breathtaking drone shows.
According to the survey, 86% of Abu Dhabi residents rated the city’s cultural life highly, and 67% highlighted its accessibility. This is a clear indication that bold ideas and substantial investment are shaping a creative and inclusive future for the UAE capital.
Important note for travelers: To legally and comfortably drive a rental car in the UAE, an International Driving Permit (IDP) is mandatory. This is especially relevant for tourists planning cultural road trips across Abu Dhabi and its surroundings. Failure to present an original IDP may result in rental denial or fines during police checks.
